Longchamp Planètes Review

After contemplating for a long while, I pulled the trigger and bought the Longchamp Planètes medium tote bag about a month ago. I was looking for a sturdy work bag that would fit my wallet, extras and also my daily lunch, water bottle and possibly a book. I found this bag via Extra Petite and kept it in mind, but I ended up going with the popular Le Pliage. After bringing the Le Pliage home and not loving the bag, I returned it and did more research on the Planètes tote finding nothing but positive reviews. It is indeed much sturdier than the Le Pliage, with thicker material and also a sleeker tone on tone look.

I've been lugging my daily things + lunch in this tote for a little over 3 months now and love it! I didn't realize how much I missed having a fully zipped bag. Since I commute to work everyday I like the security of all my belongings being zipped safely away. The bag is also light as air and compared to my previous purse, making everything feel super light on my shoulder. I did find the flap to be somewhat annoying at first as it got in the way of easily unzipping the bag and taking things out, but I did get over it. I would definitely recommend this bag as an everyday work tote. The overall quality is top-notch and the bag is well-designed in all aspects.

What's your everyday work bag?

  1. I adore Longchamp. I have a large Le Pilage that I use as a purse/work bag sometimes as well as a small one. Love the look of this one though, and definitely appreciate that it's sturdier. Both of my Le Pilage bags are wearing out at the corners.

  3. Ah ha, my everyday workbag - I love the fabric of yours though. I just have the basic black le pilage. The only downfall to this bag is the lack of compartments! :(

  5. I love big bags. But these days my everyday bag is a sling bag because it's easier to carry around with a toddler in tow. I do miss my big bags though, and I think I need to start using them again. Love yours!

    1. Hello! The top part measures about 16 inches across, the bottom: 10 inches, Straps measure about 9 inches tall. :)

    2. actually it's the smaller size for planetes right? only two size for planetes. so it's the smaller one?

    3. Hi! For this style I believe there are only two sizes. The version with short straps comes in a tinier size. This one is medium and the other one is the large. So it is the smaller one. Hope this was clear!

  11. Thank you for your review... i'm 4'11 and need an everyday work bag; but also a bag I can throw my baby's Jujube Quick in for a fast trip to the store or for an hour of errands. Thanks for the help!! I'm going to buy this bag this week!

  12. hi I really want to buy A Longchamp Le Pliage but I'm confused because I'm petite, about 4'11 in height and 42 kilograms, I'm afraid that it might overwhelm me. What do you think is the best size for me? xx

    1. Hi May Belle! I am also 4'11 and i purchased the medium size (10x10x5½ inches). That was the perfect size for me for everyday use.

I think the larger size may be too large for everyday wear, but would be a great bag for a carry-on or travel. Overall though, I would suggest trying it on in-store if you're able to so you can see what size you love. I think the medium would work really well for you though!

Here's the link to medium tote that I have: http://www.longchamp.com/en/planetes-2605002-2-600612.html

Feel free to email me if you have any more questions!

    2. I love the Planetes, look very classy! What do you think is better? A short handle or a long handle?

      Delete
    3. If you're using it everyday, I'd say go for the long handle as it's more versatile for wear (unless you prefer toting it around on your arm or holding it in your hand). For me, walking around and carrying a lot sometimes, it really helps to have long straps!

  14. Thank you for posting this! I'm also 4'11 and was debating on which bag to purchase as Bloomingdales currently has a 25% off their items and the Planetes is also included in this discount. I couldn't decide on the medium or large but will definitely be ordering the medium! And I'm with Stephanie thanks for posting such great pics and after all the searching it was a fellow Torontonian who gave me the info I needed! :-)

  15. Hello! Does your planetes fit an ipad?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! It measures about 16in across the top and 10in along the bottom. I don't have an iPad myself, but I am sure that it will indeed fit one! The fabric is thicker than that of the le pliage line so it would be great for carrying a little more weight!

  16. Hi! I'm a 5'4 and I've decided on getting the les planetes. However I'm having trouble deciding whether to get a large or a medium sized with long handles.

I plan to use it for school, travelling and also casual use. I also have broad shoulders so I'm a little wary of the medium one as I don't want it to make my built look bigger than it already is.

    What do you recommend?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Rosherna! I think both sizes would work well for you! You've got a few inches on me so I think the large wouldn't overwhelm you, nor would the medium make your build look large. I think the only factor would be how much you want to carry. I find the medium to be too small for me after using it for about a year. I'm not able to fit a lot into it and it sounds like you'll want to fit quite a few things into yours. So overall I suggest the large, but if you can go into a store and try them on you might get a better idea of what you personally prefer.

    2. Thank you for your reply!
Yup I've decided to go for the large sized one ^^
I went and try out the sizes at the store and the medium looks as though it can only hold so few things. I also like how the large is not oversized unlike les pilage large. If I'm not wrong, both large measurements varies by a little right?

Thanks for your help once again.

    3. I'm glad you did! :) Yes, I've seen that the Planetes holds a better shape than the Le Pliage so it doesn't droop as much and look overwhelming. I hope you post pics of your new work bag! And I'm I could help in some way. :D

  17. ah the Planetes does look really nice! I'm debating whether to get a new travel/all purpose bag since my current one is looking a bit ruddy (still going strong though!) or to get an everyday purse (again current one is getting ratty).

Now that I've seen better pictures of this I'm so torn!

  18. Hello, would this bag be appropriate for the beach? I travel a lot and am looking for a new tote that can squish into my suitcase easily. I'm trying to choose between this one and Le Piliage.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi! I think the Le Pliage would be much more appropriate for the beach and beating around. The Planetes tote is more of a quality bag that I would use for work, with a thicker material and higher price tag. The Le Pliage also folds up nicely for packing away whereas the Planetes does not. I would suggest the Le Pliage for traveling! :)

  19. Hi what about the handle? Is it make our shoulder hurt or something like that?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Sylvia, no the handle doesn't make my shoulder hurt or anything. The bag itself is very light so when I'm carrying lots of things it doesn't create too much extra weight. The length of the straps is perfect for carrying on the shoulder and the only time I've felt anything is when carrying for long periods of time but that goes with carrying anything for extended periods!

  22. I just got this bag and love it! I've owned two Le Pliage in the past, a small forest green and a medium lavender and this bag's material just feels so much more luxurious. I also like that it falls nicely when not really full. I'm a petite too. I ordered mine from Nordstrom online (live in the US).

  25. Hi! I'm thinking of getting myself this bag but I'm worried it will be to small since I want to use it for school. Does a A4 paper fit in it? Or is it too small? I don't want to large one because it only comes with long handles and I prefer the short handled ones. Thank you!

    1. Hi Ellie! I would say that this size just barely fits a US letter sized paper (8 1/2" x 11") so I would maybe go with the larger size if you were looking to carry more. I find the size perfect for everyday work use for me. I believe that the large size also comes with short or long handles or that may just be the le pliage. Hope this info helps you out! If you have any more questions, feel free to email me. :)
