1. Michael Kors Large Selma Top-Zip Satchel $358US, 2. J.Crew Biennial Satchel $398, 3. Michael Kors Hamilton Large Tote $358US
I'm currently on a mad search for the perfect work bag. Just under a year ago I purchased this bag and I still love it to death, but I've realized over time that it doesn't meet all my everyday needs for a work bag. I find myself doing what most women do: carrying an extra little tote bag for lunch or whatnot. I considered a larger sized Longchamp, but find organization to be a bit of a task with the Le Pliage and Planètes styles in general. So I've come to the conclusion that my must-haves are:
1. Three or more compartments for better organizing.
2. A key-holder strap on the inside (as you can see in 1&3).
3. Large enough size to easily fit a magazine/papers flat.
4. A zippered top (although 3 does not fulfill this).
5. Long enough straps to wear on shoulder.
6. Not too heavy on its own.
Although this is just a preliminary search, I am really loving option 1. Personally, I don't want to spend this much on a purse, but would like something quality-made. So I will be sure to do some research and read reviews before making a decision.
Does anyone have any experience with Michael Kors or J.Crew bags? Or any suggestions on a well-made, organized work bag?

I'd go with either #1 or #3 (though I think #1 looks a lot like Coach's Legacy bags)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cynthia!
DeleteLoving #1! I also have the longchamp planetes, but in the larger size. I agree with the organizational problem...I kind of just throw everything in. I also have the MK hamilton, which I haven't used in a while. I really like it, but when I was a student I found it hard to stuff notebooks/my laptop in there without wiggling it in at an odd angle. I also find it a bit heavy and it got to be a little saggy after awhile..but that might've been because I put a lot of stuff inside/it got wet :/
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the input Celena! Hmm... the Hamilton seems more like a pretty more than practical bag the more I think about it!
DeleteI really need a work purse with my new job, I feel like I put so much stuff in my purse now that i need a big bag! love your roundups!! have a great week
ReplyDeleteoh Tang, i've been on a similar search and these ones you've found are amazing! totally go with everything plus could fit "everything" too!!! bonus :) the one i'm considering right now comes from Madewell, i 1st spotted it on Kendi's blog. she shows it all the time, it's camel though but i think they have a vast variety of black options too. happy weekend! xo ♥
ReplyDeleteI am dying over each of these!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing finds. I have a black tote that I stuck an organizer in and it has been such a good help! Keeps everything organized:)
My Mom has the hamilton. My Dad asked me to look for a good work bag for my mom, she's a banker by the way, coz she needs a big and sturdy bag. However, my sister who's still in college is the one using it now. She has really heavy stuff! Makeup, food and even her books. Seriously, she murdered my mom's bag. hahaha
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Thanks for the laugh. :) I love the Hamilton but it would definitely need to be able to take a good beating!
DeleteGood to see that you're still blogging. I haven't done so, and I can't even remember my blog name.
ReplyDeleteWhile I've used my MK hamilton for a couple meetings/interviews (fits a lot of stuff!), I'd say its been hiding in my closet more than I would like. Mainly b/c it's a tad too big for myself - looks overwhelming on someone smaller!
ReplyDeleteOut of the 3, i'd recommend the Selma. It's a great size for shorter gals and seems to keep its shape a lot better than the Hamilton when I tried it on in the store. Love thew new saffiano styles and its a great classic shape.
Other designers I like for work totes in this price range would be Kate Spade, Dooney & Burke, Tory Burch Robinson & DKNY (little pricier).
